We (wine drinkers) have all had that experience – we open a bottle of the finest but realise we can’t finish the delicious bottle. We are stumped on how to store the remaining wine. The presence of oxygen in the bottle does not allow the wine to be kept very long after it is opened. (Although you can still preserve it for 3-5 days if you do it right.)
But is there a safe way to keep the wine fresh? Fortunately, there is!
Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi teamed up with Circle Joy a couple of years back to introduce a wine bottle opener and cork stopper – the smart wine stopper, for short – which does this. And it has been a hit eversince. Online sales of the gadget has remained strong.

It is a pretty simple, easy-to-use contraption which comes with an adjustable date indicator, so that you know when you opened the bottle. No need to wreck your brain ever again!
You affix the stainless steel cork-stopper to the bottle’s mouth, and expel the air inside the bottle by depressing the cork-stopper repeatedly. With the bottle free of air (and oxygen), the wine keeps better.
After you have done that, you turn the stopper to the day’s date, and voila! The wine is preserved as fresh as it can be, for up to 7 days, and the date is registered on the stopper so you don’t forget it.
What could be easier than that?
Here is a video on how to operate the device. (The vid is not in English but it really is self-explanatory.)
Once the bottle is opened, use the ergonomically designed spout to pour the wine on to your glass.
It is a cool invention which is a long time coming, and one which should be easily available in any home.
You can get one in the Xiaomi store and in online shops.
Cheers to that!
